Abstract
The biography and professional contribution of Maria Montessori, an outstanding Italian physician, educator, and innovator in the field of education, is explored. It reveals how her interest in child development and active participation in the struggle for women's educational rights became the basis for the formation of an original pedagogical approach. The key elements of her method are examined, in particular the concepts of the "absorbing mind", "sensitive periods", the importance of an organized environment, and the transformation of the role of the teacher. Special attention is paid to the international spread of the Montessori method and its significance in the modern education system.
