Abstract

Understanding the need to strengthen the research component in the activities of domestic universities for Ukraine's full entry into the European Higher Education Area and the European Research Area prompts the search for modern research management mechanisms. An analysis of the experience of managing research activities in universities in the United Kingdom - one of the leading countries in higher education according to international rankings - indicates that an effective mechanism for managing research is research governance as a component of the university governance system. Despite the fact that, according to European experts, university governance has a direct impact on research results, to date, domestic educational science has not had a comprehensive analysis of the mechanisms for implementing research governance in leading countries in higher education. The purpose of the article is to analyze the experience of research management through the development of a research governance framework in universities in the United Kingdom in order to study the possibilities for implementing best practices in the domestic higher education system. To achieve the goal, methods of analysis, synthesis, comparison, systematization of scientific and Internet sources were used, which made it possible to identify the features of research management in universities in the United Kingdom. The application of the generalization method made it possible to draw conclusions about the results of the study. The article substantiates the relevance of modernizing the research management system in domestic universities. The experience of research management through the development and use of research governance frameworks in universities in the United Kingdom is analyzed. The composition and description of the elements of the research governance framework are analyzed, their generalized characteristics are given. The features of the use of the research governance framework in universities in the United Kingdom are characterized, a list of key documents and main actors (participants) of research governance is given.
