Abstract
The article provides a theoretical analysis of the concept of "professional development of a teacher". The essence and value of open online courses as a means of teacher professional development are characterized. Based on scientific publications, the theoretical aspects and features of mass open online courses in education were analyzed. The advantages of open online courses for the professional development of teachers, which is critically important for improving the quality of education of education seekers and the educational process in general, are determined.
