Abstract
The article is devoted to the issue of ensuring students' independent cognitive activity by means of a textbook. It should be noted that a modern textbook is the main means of organizing cognitive activity, provided that its structure corresponds to the cognitive capabilities of students of a certain age period. The development of independent cognitive activity is facilitated by tasks developed on the basis of a competence approach. These are research tasks of a proactive nature, problematic tasks, tasks taking into account the age characteristics of students' cognitive activity. The development of independent cognitive activity of students in the information space is ensured by the implementation of innovative methods by means of the textbook.
