Abstract

The article covers insufficiently known facts of the history of special pedagogy, in particular, the personal contribution to the formation and development of defectological science of Ukraine of scientists and practitioners, who studied children with disorders of psychophysical development, were organizers of the formation and system development of special education in the early twentieth century. Special attention was paid to the organizers of medical-pedagogical offices, which functioned in Kharkiv, Kyiv, Odesa, and Katerynoslav. The researchers thoroughly explored the life and activities of Ilia Levinson, the information about which was fragmentary and inoperative. To the general public became available scientific works that were completely unknown to this day, but have not lost their relevance and practical significance for today. Authors managed to describe the life path of a scientist, to show its peculiarities, difficulties and tragic moments, to make a relatively complete list of scientific works.
