Abstract

The article is devoted to the current problem of the formation of speech culture and the study of the Ukrainian language in educational institutions. The results of the research of thesis in the field of "Theory and Methods of Teaching the Ukrainian Language" that were defended by Ukrainian scientists during 1991–2021 are highlighted. References to the works are listed in the scientific auxiliary bibliographic index "Dissertations on Education (1991–2021)". The total number of identified and analyzed works from the scientific specialty 13.00.02 – theory and teaching methods (011 Educational sciences, 014 Secondary education (by subject specializations) in the direction "Theory and Teaching Methods of the Ukrainian Language" amounted to 339 dissertations. Quantitative and chronological monitoring of dissertations was carried out according to various parameters: the dynamics of defense by year, the number of candidate and doctoral dissertations. The thematic spectrum of dissertation research in the main directions of Ukrainian linguistic didactics is considered. Most works (45.4%) are devoted to teaching methods of phonetics, spelling and graphics, lexicology and phraseology, word structure and word formation, studying parts of the language, forming students' orthographic literacy. A number of works on the substantiation of the theoretical foundations and the development of the methodology for the formation of students' grammatical competence in Ukrainian language lessons are singled out; dialogic speech problems; enriching students' speech with Ukrainian phraseology; remote learning of the Ukrainian language and the use of ICT. Bibliometric analysis of dissertation research made it possible to identify and track the most powerful scientific ones schools of Ukrainian language didactics, which were formed in all regions of Ukraine, – schools of O. M. Bilyaev, A. M. Bogush, M. S. Vashulenko, S. O. Karaman, M. I. Pentylyuk, L. I. Matsko. It was found that the general dynamics of the defense of dissertations in independent Ukraine since 1996 has become quite stable, which indicates a systematic process of work of specialized scientific councils and renewal of scientific personnel. It was established that the directions (topics) of dissertation research are expanding and are deepening due to the processes of reformation and change of priorities, which education and pedagogical science is undergoing. Prospects for further scientific research on institutional features and establishment of correlations are predicted.
