Abstract
The article substantiates a practice-oriented model of vocational training of automotive industry specialists based on the integration of artificial intelligence technologies. The relevance of the study stems from the digital transformation of vocational education and the need to align training with labour-market demands and the concept of Industry 5.0. The aim is to theoretically substantiate and empirically verify a model in which artificial intelligence acts as a cross-cutting means of forming professional competence with an emphasis on practical skills. The essence of the practice-oriented model is revealed in the context of the national tradition of block modelling and the achievements of Western European pedagogy, which interprets professional competence as an integrated unity of knowledge, skills and attitudes. A structural-functional model has been developed, comprising six blocks (target, methodological-conceptual, content, procedural-technological, organizational-pedagogical, and result-evaluative), as well as implementation conditions, principles, artificial intelligence as a cross-cutting factor, resource support, and a feedback loop. The study employs a mixed-methods design: a large-scale survey (3305 respondents) and a comparative pedagogical experiment (112 task performances). It is established that the use of artificial intelligence increases the accuracy of calculations, the quality and validity of solutions, reduces the number of errors, and improves the overall effectiveness of practical task performance, while the share of learners with high and medium levels of competence rises from 47% to 64%. At the same time, a decrease in the independence of task performance was revealed, which justifies the need for the targeted development of critical thinking and skills of verifying AI-generated solutions. The statistical significance of between-group differences was confirmed using Pearson’s chi-square test (χ² = 11.00; df = 2; p = 0.004 for the overall score). The greatest effect was recorded in creative engineering design and automotive diagnostics. Prospects for further research relate to the development of methodological support for the model, its broad approbation, and statistical validation.
