Abstract
The publication argues that the use of AI in education without adherence to the FAIR principles inevitably leads to low quality, an inability to reproduce results, and threats to academic integrity. Academic and teaching staff play a key role in overcoming these challenges as intermediaries between technology and the educational process. Any automated system in education is, first and foremost, a data processing system, which forms the foundation of educational automation. The effective use of AI in education is impossible without adherence to the FAIR principles. Unstructured, inaccessible, and incompatible data lead to poor-quality predictions, biases, and an inability to reproduce results. In the age of AI, educators must transform into active facilitators who manage data, verify algorithms, interpret results, and develop guidelines for using AI in the educational process. The first steps should be: creating FAIR-compliant educational data repositories at the national level, and incorporating modules on data management and the fundamentals of AI into professional development programs for academic and pedagogical staff. Thus, the combination of FAIR principles and the responsible use of AI, facilitated by competent academic and teaching staff, has the potential to drive qualitative changes in the educational process.
