Abstract
The purpose of this publication is to examine the interrelationship between the processes of internationalization and digitalization in higher education institutions and research organizations, and to identify current trends in their development and the challenges they face. The internationalization of higher education institutions and research institutions in today’s environment is impossible without the deep digitalization of all levels of educational and scientific activity. The use of open systems and the implementation of FAIR standards ensure the openness and reproducibility of research, which is critically important for integration into the European Research Area. The analysis conducted allows us to draw the following conclusions: 1. The internationalization and digitalization of HEIs and research institutions are interrelated processes, the synergy of which creates new opportunities for the development of international academic cooperation. 2. The modern concept of “digital internationalization” involves a shift from traditional physical mobility to hybrid forms of cooperation that combine virtual learning, joint research initiatives, and human capital development. 3. The experience of the Ukrainian-German EDUBA project demonstrates that the systematic digitalization of international educational programs contributes to increased institutional resilience, inclusivity, and the quality of education even in crisis conditions. 4. For Ukraine, the development of digital internationalization is not only a tool for modernizing education but also a key factor in European integration and ensuring the resilience of the education system under martial law.
