Abstract
The article examines the use of the encyclopedic portal as a basis for an automated model of the subject area in the lighting sector. The authors analyzed the development of the “Ukrainian Electronic Encyclopedia of Education” (UEEO) at the Institute of Digitalization of Education of NAES of Ukraine using the MediaWiki platform with semantic plug-in Semantic MediaWiki. We analyse the structure of the UEEO knowledge base that uses an ontological model of the ecosystem of this encyclopedic resource. This model formalizes the processes of development and interaction between participants of UEEO development. Other important element of UEEO is an ontological model of education domain that formalizes semantic connections between encyclopedic articles. Particular attention is paid to the typification of information objects (persons, organizations, authors) and the problem of the unified structure of abstract objects to be understood through semantic templates. The transition from a simple search of keywords to a full-fledged semantic processing of data, which allows to realize search and navigation on the same level of knowledge, is emphasized. The synergy between ontologies and knowledge graphs for the domain formalization in electronic encyclopedic resources (ER) is demonstrated. The key result of the study is defining the role of ontological models at various stages of the ER life cycle - from the conceptualization and verification by the knowledge engineer to the mass content addition by editors and visualization of semantic relations for end users. A mechanism for the knowledge graph generation is based on the semantic markup of the Wiki pages and links between ER keywords. Particular attantion is paid to the generation of personalized knowledge subgraphs based on user semantic queries. This approach allows to automate the identification of relations between ER articles, promote the search relevance and ensure the knowledge interoperability through export to the OWL format for use by external intelligent applications.
