Abstract

The article explores an innovative system for developing scientific design thinking among students of the Junior Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. It substantiates the importance of an interdisciplinary approach in design and its role in shaping modern scientific thinking. The study analyzes the differences between STEM and STEAM education, highlighting their impact on preparing future scientists and promoting science among a wider audience. Special attention is given to the relationship between design and science, which fosters creativity, critical thinking, and an innovative approach to solving complex problems. The research emphasizes the necessity of integrating design into scientific education as an effective means of engaging gifted youth in research activities. By incorporating design principles into the learning process, students develop problem-solving skills, visual literacy, and the ability to work across disciplines. The article also examines international experience in implementing STEAM education, focusing on best practices that contribute to the development of a new generation of researchers and designers. In particular, the study reviews practical methods for integrating STEAM education into the curriculum of the Junior Academy of Sciences. These include project-based learning, interdisciplinary workshops, and collaborative initiatives that encourage students to apply scientific knowledge through creative experimentation. The role of design in forming holistic, innovative approaches to scientific research is analyzed, demonstrating its effectiveness in enhancing students’ engagement and comprehension of complex concepts. Ultimately, the article argues that the fusion of design and science within STEAM education not only strengthens students' academic performance but also prepares them for the challenges of the modern world. By fostering a mindset that combines analytical reasoning with artistic exploration, this educational model equips young researchers with the skills necessary for future scientific and technological advancements.
