Abstract
The article examines the role of digital platforms in fostering students’ cognitive orientation in learning foreign languages in higher education institutions. The influence of globalization, digitalization, the popularization of distance and blended learning, student mobility, and international educational programs and projects on the modernization of foreign language teaching approaches is analyzed. It is emphasized that traditional teaching methods do not always ensure sufficient student`s orientation, making digital platforms an effective tool for stimulating cognitive orientation and developing critical thinking. The article classifies contemporary digital platforms according to their areas of application: platforms for structured language learning (Coursera, edX, FutureLearn, Prometheus, EdEra, Udemy); for practicing lexical and grammatical skills (Duolingo, Busuu, Memrise, Quizlet, Kahoot); professional educational platforms (Oxford University Press, Macmillan Education, National Geographic Learning, ETS); platforms for communicative practice (Italki, Tandem, HelloTalk); services for collaborative writing and project creation (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Padlet, Trello, Canva, Miro, Notion); social networks and international educational projects (eTwinning, Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange). It has been established that the integrated use of digital platforms stimulates students’ cognitive orientation, enhances motivation, intercultural communication, and self-directed learning skills. The article outlines prospects for further research, which include identifying and testing organizational and pedagogical conditions for integrating digital platforms into higher education, aiming to foster students’ cognitive orientation, as well as developing methodological recommendations for lecturers on using digital tools in blended and distance learning contexts.
