Abstract

The article provides a historical-pedagogical analysis of the life path and scientific-pedagogical heritage of Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Andrii Ivanovich Seletskyi. The period of activity of a scientist at the faculty of defectology of Kyiv Pedagogical Institute named after O. M. Gorky (now the faculty of special and inclusive education of Ukrainian State University named after Mykhailo Drahomanov) is analyzed. His role is revealed in the development of the teacher training systems in special educational institutions of various types. These processes are revealed in the context of the formation of positive public opinion regarding the socialization of children with intellectual and physical developmental disabilities. The creation and development in the post-war period of the state network of special schools and preschool institutions for various nosologies of children with disorders of psychophysical development is noted. A. I. Seletsky played a significant role in the creation of state special schools and preschool educational institutions, the training of teachers for special schools, and the formation of scientific thought. Professor A. I. Seletsky for many years collaborated with department of defectology of the Research Institute of Pedagogy of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine, which was headed by Professor I. G. Yeremenko. The scientist also developed a long-term professional friendship with the first president of the APN of Ukraine, Academician M. D. Yarmachenko. The professor had close ties with a number of Ukrainian psychological and pedagogical editions. In particular, he published a number of thorough textbooks and training manuals on childhood pathopsychology. It is worth noting that these publications are still in great demand among the scientific and pedagogical community of Ukraine and other countries of the world. The scientist's research is of particular importance even in our time, when the issue of providing multifaceted psychological and medical assistance to children and adults suffering from the military calamities of our days is becoming urgent. The article outlines the ways and prospects of using the scientific and pedagogical heritage of Professor Andrii Ivanovich Seletsky in modern special psychological and pedagogical science and practice. The terminology in the article is presented in the currently established dimension.
