Abstract
The article provides a thorough analysis of the process of formation and development of the system of patriotic education in secondary education institutions of Ukraine in the period 1991–2009. The socio-political prerequisites for the actualization of the patriotic component in education after Ukraine gained independence are revealed. It is proven that patriotic education has become an important tool in the process of forming national identity, civic consciousness and forming an active position among schoolchildren regarding the future of the state. The main directions of implementation of patriotic education in school practice are determined: integration of patriotic values into the content of subjects of the humanitarian cycle, extracurricular activities, local history work, school museums, and participation in public initiatives. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of curricula, which trace a gradual transition from declarative to a systematic approach to educating students. Significant regional differences in approaches to interpreting the national past and forms of educational activity are revealed. The study provides examples of the activities of individual schools in Kyiv, Lviv, Lutsk, Donetsk, and Kharkiv, which demonstrate practical aspects of implementing patriotic programs. The importance of historical memory as a factor that shapes students' worldviews and contributes to the awareness of the continuity of generations and responsibility for the future of the state is outlined. The material is based on source documents, state concepts, curricula and reports of educational institutions. The article examines the development of patriotic education in general education institutions of Ukraine from 1991 to 2009. The main directions, regulatory legal acts, program documents and pedagogical approaches that shaped the ideology and practice of patriotic education in the conditions of the formation of an independent state are analyzed. The emphasis is placed on the role of the school as an institution of socialization and the formation of the national identity of the younger generation.
