Abstract

The article focuses on the idea of child-centeredness in the scientific research conducted by scholars at the Preschool Psychology Laboratory of the G.S. Kostiuk Institute of Psychology of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine. For modern education, this idea serves as a system-forming principle of pedagogical interaction between an adult and a child. It involves creating optimal conditions for the development and self-actualization of each participant in the educational process. The main idea of child-centeredness affirms the position that teaching and upbringing should be close to the abilities and characteristics of each child. The affirmation of this idea in the practice of science and education positions childhood as an independent stage of life that requires not only adult support, but also understanding of the phenomenon of childhood in the general development of society. The article presents topics of scientific research conducted by scholars in different years of operation, as well as a characteristic of educational projects that implement the idea of child-centeredness.
