Abstract
The article analyses contemporary approaches to defining psychological stability, which is conceptualised as a multidimensional characteristic of the individual encompassing hardiness, resilience, stress resistance, and other adaptive resources. It is summarised that the phenomenon of psychological resilience integrates both internal personal qualities and socio-cultural factors that underpin effective functioning under conditions of uncertainty and extreme challenges. Hardiness and resilience are identified as the central components of psychological resilience, performing complementary functions: hardiness provides the foundation for overcoming adversity, while resilience ensures processes of positive adaptation and recovery. The combination of these qualities enables individuals to preserve functionality and psychological well-being in crisis circumstances. The empirical study involved 422 participants from different regions of Ukraine as well as Ukrainians residing abroad. A set of psychodiagnostic methods was employed, including questionnaires on resilience, hardiness, quality of life, and psychological well-being. The findings demonstrate that resilience shows strong positive correlations with hardiness, quality of life, and psychological well-being. Higher levels of resilience and hardiness were observed among participants remaining in Ukraine, which is interpreted as a mobilisation of internal resources in response to extreme external conditions. At the same time, no statistically significant differences were found between the groups in terms of subjective assessment of quality of life. It is concluded that psychological resilience represents an integral formation, the development of which is determined by the interplay of individual personality traits, social context, and cultural values. The results expand the understanding of psychological resources among Ukrainians in the context of war and mass migration and may serve as a foundation for developing programmes of psychological support and strengthening mental health in the population.
