Abstract

The views of modern scholars (L. Berezivska, I. Bekh, K. Zhurba, H. Filipchuk), who have made a significant contribution to the preservation of the national identity of Ukrainians, are emphasized. It is demonstrated that these scholars affirm the Ukrainian national and civic identity, direct their scientific research to achieve unity in Ukrainian society by preserving national memory and history, the idea of consolidating society around social and state (national) values. It is noted that the information and analytical support of psychological science in the context of forming the national identity of Ukrainians is an important part of the scientific work of contemporary scientists. The author examines information and analytical support of psychological science in the context of formation of the national identity of Ukrainians in the scientific work of contemporary scientists; identifies the ways of forming the national identity of Ukrainians in the scientific work of contemporary scientists. The definition of the concept of “national identity” is discursively clarified. The conclusions of scholars are highlighted: the origins of national identity should be sought in the history of pedagogy, the experience of outstanding teachers who “laid the bricks of national-patriotic education” (L. Berezivska); Ukrainian national identity is the ideological and value core of a person's life; it is a deep personal activity that is filled with national color and can become a universal tradition (I. Bekh); It is important to have a national identity. Bekh); It is important not only to be aware of one's identity, but also to have a conviction that the disappearance of ethnic originality in language, culture, traditions, memory makes it impossible to motivate belonging to the Ukrainian ethnic identity and national identity in particular (G. Filipchuk); national identity is based on the «roots» of the family, country, people and connection with the historical past, knowledge of myths, legends, shrines, use of the Ukrainian language, respect for Ukrainian symbols, which is important for education (K. Zhurba), etc. The relevance of the experience of contemporary scholars and their significant contribution to the study and preservation of the national identity of Ukrainians is revealed.
