Abstract
This article explores the phenomenon of resilience as an important personal resource that ensures an individual’s psychological stability in conditions of uncertainty caused by warfare, forced displacement, the consequences of the pandemic, and other stressors. The aim of the study is to analyze resilience as a personal resource in times of uncertainty and social challenges. The research was conducted in the summer of 2023. The sample included 422 participants, of whom 54% were women and 46% were men, with an average age of 39.9 years. To examine resilience as a personal resource, the following methods were used: the Nicholson McBride Resilience Questionnaire (NMRQ), the ‘Study of Personal Quality of Life’ questionnaire, and scales of optimism-activity and psychological well-being by C. Ryff. The survey was conducted both online and in paper format. The findings revealed that the majority of respondents demonstrated a sufficient level of resilience under prolonged stress and uncertainty caused by the war. Statistically significant correlations were found between resilience and such indicators as optimism, activity, self-perception, positive relations with others, personal growth, environmental mastery, autonomy, and overall quality of life. It was found that most participants (approximately 86%) demonstrated established, strong, or exceptional levels of resilience, which is a positive indicator for Ukrainian society in wartime conditions. People with high levels of resilience tend to be active, optimistic, capable of forming positive social connections, managing life circumstances, and maintaining internal balance. In the context of current social challenges, resilience plays a key role in preserving mental health and supporting functional living. Future research should focus on identifying factors that promote the development of resilience and on designing psychological interventions aimed at strengthening it.
