Abstract
The article highlights the importance of emphasising the value component of modern literary education and the priority of educating students-readers in patriotism through the means of the artistic word, the formation of national consciousness, active citizenship in the realities of the New Ukrainian School. It was emphasised that the consideration of the didactic principle of the connection between teaching literature and contemporary as one of the main ones in designing the content of school literary education and the educational significance of covering the works of warrior writers in literature lessons in general secondary education. The value and methodological aspects of the topic of the Russian-Ukrainian war in the content of modern school literary education are revealed. The current model curricula in Ukrainian literature and textbooks for secondary education institutions, prepared by scientists of the Institute of Pedagogy of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, are analysed. The essence of various genres of literary works recommended for textual study in grades 5–9, about the struggle of the Ukrainian people for their independence against Russian invaders, is specified. A model of effective organisation of students' learning activities in Ukrainian literature lessons in grades 5-7 is presented. The didactic purpose of the sections of Ukrainian literature textbooks for grades 5-7 is revealed in detail in terms of the sequential presentation of educational material and the development of methodological apparatus in the aspect of the problem raised. Various methods and techniques for processing educational material and analysing works of art are proposed, including questions and tasks of a reproductive, partially searching and problematic nature, which contribute to the actualisation of students’ reading and subjective experience, conscious understanding of works on military topics, formation of patriotic feelings and respect for defenders.
