Abstract

The article highlights the possibilities of non-formal education as a modern innovation in educational practices. The author characterises non-formal education as a type of education that deepens competence in areas of interest to learners and develops skills that go beyond the goals of the formal educational system. The analysis of the world and domestic experience of non-formal education shows that there is a wide range of educational services. It is proved that non-formal education is understood as an educational activity organised outside of formal education that complements formal education, ensuring the acquisition of the skills necessary for a socially and economically active citizen of the country. It is outlined that the main emphasis in obtaining non-formal education is placed on those areas of knowledge which are most relevant to an individual, which is its advantage over formal education which provides comprehensive knowledge. The author specifies the regulatory documents governing the procedure for recognising the results obtained in non-formal education. It is stated that non-formal education in Ukraine plays an important role, in particular, in the pre-war period - it supports democratic transformations and the development of civil society, and during martial law - it is also an opportunity to compensate for educational losses. War has a profound effect on the quality of education. Some children started studying online, but due to the lack of electricity, they lost the opportunity to study systematically, while others were forced to leave the country in search of safety. To mitigate the negative effects of the war on education, efforts are needed to ensure security and stability in the education system, as well as access to educational resources. In this approach, non-formal education is a means of compensating for educational losses.
