Abstract

The article presents the concept, content, and implementation stages of the online project "Ukrainian Educators – Participants of the Second World War", developed by the Pedagogical Museum of Ukraine in 2025 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazism. The project addresses a largely underexplored topic in Ukrainian historiography — the role and contribution of Ukrainian teachers who took part in the war, both on the front lines and in the partisan movement. In the context of the ongoing decolonization of historical memory and the need to counter Russian historical propaganda, this project offers a meaningful educational and memorial response through digital means. The article outlines the interdisciplinary foundations of the initiative, which integrates pedagogical biography, public history, and digital humanities. The project’s objectives include honoring the memory of Ukrainian educators-veterans, popularizing the historical and educational heritage, and providing a scientifically grounded counter-narrative to Soviet and Russian monopolization of World War II memory. Key components of the project include a series of thematic publications on social media (Facebook, Instagram), a set of dynamic short videos hosted on the museum’s YouTube channel, and a virtual exhibition available on the museum’s official website. These formats were designed to engage different audiences by combining academic accuracy with emotionally resonant storytelling. Special attention is given to the visual and methodological design of the content: unified graphic layouts styled as historical documents, selection criteria for featured individuals (based on archival materials, historical relevance, and commemorative significance), and the content logic based on thematic and chronological principles. The use of social media as a platform for digital commemoration fostered interactive engagement and allowed for the wide dissemination of personalized wartime stories. The statistical results of the project show sustained interest among social media users and confirm the effectiveness of digital tools in memorial and educational work. In broader terms, the project contributes to the formation of national historical awareness, resists historical falsification, and demonstrates how digital communication strategies can revitalize historical discourse in modern Ukraine. The initiative stands as an innovative model for representing the history of education within the framework of digital memory culture.
