Abstract
The purpose of the article is to describe and analyse the methods, programmes and pedagogical approaches used to develop the social competence of students with intellectual disabilities in special schools, as well as to promote the professional competence of teachers in this area. The article considers the relevance of the problem of forming the social competence of students with intellectual disabilities in the context of modern trends in the development of special education. It is emphasised that social competence is a key factor in the successful integration into society and self-realisation of children with IPD. Different approaches to the definition of social competence in the scientific literature are analysed, in particular, the emphasis on communication skills, emotional regulation and the ability to adapt to social situations. The peculiarities of the development of the social sphere of pupils with IPD, determined by their cognitive, emotional and behavioural characteristics, are revealed. Examples of specific methods for the formation of social competence are given, such as game activities, situation modelling, social stories, communication skills training, group work, the use of visuals and positive reinforcement. The peculiarities of applying these methods and techniques are considered, taking into account the individual needs of students with PID and their cognitive, emotional and behavioural aspects. Examples of the use of these methods in the educational process of a special school, in particular in lessons on various subjects and in extracurricular activities, are given. It is noted that the formation of social competence of students with IPD is an urgent and important problem of modern special education. Its solution will contribute to the successful integration of students into society, their social adaptation, preparation for independent living and ensuring the quality of life. The analysis of literature and pedagogical experience shows that social competence is an integrated ability of an individual to interact effectively with society. Pupils with IPD often experience difficulties in social interaction due to their developmental characteristics. The effectiveness of correctional and developmental programmes depends on taking into account the individual characteristics of the child, the characteristics of the social environment and the organisation of the educational process. The use of various methods and techniques, such as game activities, situation modelling, social stories, communication skills training, group work, visualisation and positive reinforcement, is an effective means of developing the social competence of students with IPD. A systematic, consistent and individual approach to teaching, as well as the cooperation of teachers with parents and other professionals, is important. Further research in this area should be aimed at improving diagnostic tools, developing innovative programmes, studying the effectiveness of various methods and techniques, investigating the influence of various factors on the formation of social competence and developing methodological recommendations for teachers.
