Abstract
This article presents a theoretical and methodological analysis of the relevance and effectiveness of integrating intercultural education with psychosocial support as an innovative approach to overcoming cultural shock and facilitating intercultural adaptation. The research focuses on a complex set of challenges arising from globalization, forced migration, cultural mobility, and the increasing psychosocial vulnerability of populations, especially in the context of full-scale war in Ukraine. It is argued that the integration of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral components of adaptation ensures a comprehensive impact on individuals undergoing sociocultural transitions. The paper examines key models of intercultural interaction – namely, the theories of G. Hofstede, R. Lewis, and M. Bennett, as well as the concept of super diversity by S. Vertovec – which help explain the dynamics of transnational identity, stages of intercultural sensitivity, and communication styles across diverse cultural environments. The potential of narrative-based approaches (in particular, David Denborough’s collective narrative practice) and educational-therapeutic modules is highlighted as tools for psychosocial support that contribute to the formation of flexible identity, the enhancement of empathy, and the normalization of the experience of “otherness.” The article outlines ways to implement an integrated approach within both formal and non-formal educational environments: school adaptation programs, digital platforms, teacher training, and mobile self-help applications. It also presents international case studies (Sweden, Canada, Germany) and Ukrainian pilot initiatives implemented in partnership with UNICEF and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Furthermore, the article identifies integrated indicators for evaluating the effectiveness of intercultural adaptation programs, allowing for the monitoring of individuals' psycho-emotional dynamics and levels of social inclusion. It emphasizes the critical importance of training multidisciplinary professionals with intercultural competence, as well as the need for regulatory and institutional support at the level of national policy. The study concludes that the integration of intercultural education and psychosocial support is not only a pedagogical innovation but also a humanistic response to contemporary challenges – contributing to the development of a new culture of care, dialogue, and social resilience.
