Abstract
The article presents the potential of distance education in the context of professional training for students majoring in 101 "Ecology" and 183 "Environmental Protection Technologies", using the case study of the National Transport University. The research examines the application of various methods, approaches, and tools for teaching disciplines related to the processing of environmental information within a blended learning environment. It is demonstrated that distance education at the National Transport University is implemented through the use of a range of modern pedagogical approaches. Notably, the integration of the Moodle platform has proven to be effective both for the delivery of instructional content and for assessing students’ learning outcomes. As all educational materials are uploaded to Moodle, the platform is equally accessible to both students and instructors. In addition, the study evaluates the feasibility of carrying out practical tasks using the interactive whiteboard Miro. The findings indicate that this tool significantly enhances collaborative efficiency, enabling real-time group interaction. This method of instruction was also positively perceived by students, who described it as engaging and accessible for mastering lecture material and consolidating practical skills in the discipline. Despite certain advantages, the research confirms that a complete transition to fully remote education is not advisable in the context of training future professionals in environmental protection-related specializations. Distance learning platforms are currently unable to fully replicate the conditions necessary for practical training and the development of professional competencies. These educational programs require a substantial number of hands-on sessions conducted in face-to-face formats. An effective implementation of distance education in this field necessitates high levels of motivation from both students and faculty members, as well as coordinated teamwork. Moreover, the specific features of distance and blended learning formats demand further investigation, considering the unique characteristics of individual educational institutions, local educational practices, and contextual factors.
