Abstract
In 2024, the Mykola Yarmachenko Institute of Special Pedagogy and Psychology of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine continued its active work aimed at enhancing educational, scientific, and practical support for individuals with special educational needs. Among the key achievements are the modernization of scientific and methodological approaches to inclusive and special education, the development of new programs and manuals for specialists working with children with special educational needs, as well as the advancement of digital educational resources and platforms. In 2024, within the framework of fundamental research, the Institute implemented several groundbreaking initiatives for the first time: a national concept of neurospeech therapy was developed, taking into account neuropsychological and neurophysiological factors affecting speech disorders in children and adults; a comprehensive study of sign languages in Europe was conducted, covering 31 sign languages in 27 EU countries and 4 other countries; a comparative analysis of the education systems of the EU and Ukraine in the context of inclusion was completed. In the applied area, the Institute developed educational programs for students with intellectual disabilities, visual impairments, and severe speech disorders, aligned with the New Ukrainian School (NUS) concept. Materials were prepared to support the psychological assistance of children with special educational needs and their families, including those with hearing impairments, particularly under the conditions of war. A significant milestone was the creation of the first Terminological Dictionary of Special Pedagogy and Psychology. Special attention was given to interdisciplinary research in neuropsychology, speech therapy, typhlopedagogy, and surdopedagogy, which made it possible to introduce innovative approaches in the diagnosis and correction of developmental disorders. The Institute actively collaborated with international partners through participation in grant-funded projects, conferences, and academic mobility programs. The development prospects for 2025 have been outlined, including expanding the research base, improving the professional training of special education teachers, introducing cutting-edge technologies into the educational and correctional process, and strengthening communication with communities, educational institutions, and parent associations. All these efforts are aimed at improving the quality of educational services and ensuring every child's right to accessible and high-quality education.
