Abstract
The publication reveals the problem of learning losses of junior schoolchildren in view of their decisive impact on the academic prospects of students in the process of obtaining basic secondary education. The results of a large-scale study conducted in April-May 2024 are presented. The importance of developing functional literacy, information and communication competence, and the ability to learn (independently) in primary school students is proved. These components of primary education are the foundation on which the effective education of junior schoolchildren in wartime is built. They are a prerequisite for maintaining the continuity between primary and basic secondary education, contribute to the future achievements of students and their readiness to overcome educational challenges, and are the basis for students' progress in grades 5-6 and in further education, an important prerequisite for the formation of key and subject competencies for successful lifelong learning.
