Abstract
The article addresses the issue of the status of students with disabilities in general secondary education establishments. The main characteristics of tolerance and inclusion are described, emphasizing that tolerance and acceptance are contrary to bullying and humiliation. The main features of tolerance as a social phenomenon are highlighted (mutual respect, openness to new ideas, ability to engage in team activities, capacity for self-criticism). Methods of promoting inclusion in Ukraine and the importance of increasing tolerance among students are noted. The reasons for the increase in the level of tolerance, particularly in Ukraine, are characterized. It is clarified that the level of inclusion in Ukraine is lower than the average in European countries. Society’s attitudes towards children with physical and intellectual disabilities are discussed. Specific measures for promoting a tolerant attitude towards children with disabilities in Ukrainian secondary education institutions are outlined (opening inclusive classes, creating a safe space, training pedagogical staff, printing textbooks). Based on the results of surveys of students and interviews with experts in the field, the main problems regarding the disability of students in Ukrainian educational institutions are established. It is emphasized that effective communication and interaction with children with disabilities require a careful, open-minded, and respectful approach to their uniqueness. It is confirmed that a higher level of inclusion of children with disabilities creates more comfortable and safe conditions for coexistence of students and joint educational processes in secondary education institutions. Certain provisions of the article are illustrated with drawings. A brochure has been created based on the results of the research and distributed on social networks.
