Abstract

The problem of the formation of reading competence of modern pupils-readers is updated. The theoretical and methodological studies of the contextual analysis of literary works in secondary schools are summarized. It has been proven that the study of a literary work in the context of the biography of the artist's personality diversifies the process of learning Ukrainian literature in the New Ukrainian School, contributes to the formation of a holistic view of the world in students-readers, and the development of skills necessary for successful social self-realization.
