Abstract

The publication emphasizes the importance of the formation of reading competence in pupils and students, emphasize the relevance of its representation in educational programs. It is noted that the attention of education workers should be focused on the development of abilities, certain traits and qualities of the individual in resisting the destructive effects of the media space. The importance of becoming a conscious reader of media texts is emphasized, one of the important qualities of which is self-confidence as a reader. The results of the research on the level of trust of first-year students in themselves as a whole, in themselves as a reader and in the mass media are presented.
