Abstract

The article examines the key stages of the formation and development of andragogy in a historical context, starting from the 19th century. It analyzes the contribution of O. Kapp, who first introduced the term 'andragogy,' and discusses the further development of this discipline in the 20th century thanks to the works of M. Knowles. The article addresses the criticism of Knowles' theory and its refutation, particularly based on the author's practical experience. Special attention is given to contemporary approaches in adult education, including Professor Joost Reischmann's concept of 'learning en passant,' which emphasizes the importance of learning through life situations. The article highlights the need to adapt educational programs to the needs of adult learners and to prepare andragogues who can effectively support adult learning processes.
