Abstract
Modern society, representing the society of information, the person dictates new requirements for the formation of the actual types of competences, acts as a socio-cultural situation of development of modern education. The need for information is included in a wide range of needs of the modern man and offers the public the necessity of identity in the information support of all kinds of human activity, determines the inclusion of the individual into the existing system of social information. It is possible to distinguish two main challenges facing the information society – the information deficit and information overload, which in turn actualizes the problem of formation and development of critical thinking in the context of preparing the younger generation for life in modern media conditions. The development of the younger generation largely depends on the education system, its quality and concept, in connection with which media education is of particular relevance. In the article, the author writes about the need to develop critical thinking of pupils. It is about the development of skills to pose problems and questions, seek an explanation of incomprehensible information, analyze, interpret, evaluate media texts, find hidden meaning in them, and reveal manipulative possibilities. And this is only feasible to a media competent person. To carry out a full-fledged critical analysis of media text, students must possess a set of such skills: perceive media information, explain, compare, define media texts, highlight the relationship between elements of media text, connect them according to the principle of interaction; distinguish between fakes and truthful information.According to the author, the school is able to influence the process of media education of pupils of psychological and pedagogical direction of training, which for the successful implementation of their future professional activity is required, including the ability to work with the media. Being one of the most important participants in the educational process, the teacher in his professional activity needs to take into account the general trends in the development of media technologies since their impact promotes qualitative revision of the training content. The article presents the scientific understanding of the problems of the development of critical thinking under the impact of the mass media.
