Abstract
The article presents practical experience in project-based learning aimed at developing students’ information and communication competence in primary and secondary schools, as well as their artistic competence, abilities in constructive peer communication, teamwork, critical thinking, creativity, empathy, and social skills. The "Digital Sketches" exhibition-contest involves primary school students in creating digital artworks. The preparation and conduction of the contest and the award ceremony are carried out by a team of secondary school students. The teacher is facilitator and tutor. The project includes next stages: motivational, organizational, creation of digital drawings, exhibition of works, voting, preparation of the ceremony and awarding. At the motivational stage, the teacher introduces students to the idea of the contest and encourages their participation; at the organizational stage, senior students plan the project using a Gantt chart in order to visualize the stages of further activities (with Canva service). For creating drawings, students use a simple image editor (e.g., Paint), and for the digital exhibition – Padlet app. Voting is organized in online mode, works are evaluated by both school students and an external expert jury. The ceremonial awarding of winners is accompanied by an animated video created using Animoto online application. Presentations for the ceremony can be developed in PowerPoint, Prezi, PowToon, Canva, or other applications, following the basic rules of visual content creation. Requirements for contest works may vary depending on current curriculum themes, students’ interests, preferences, skills and abilities. For example, a digital collage exhibition, presentations, posters, social media posts on a specific topic, interactive images, digital storytelling etc., can be organized, adapting the project for a secondary (grades 5 to 9) school competition. A creative project can be dedicated to a specific holiday, solemn end of the school year, IT week or visual arts week.
