Abstract
The article offers an attempt at a theoretical and experimental analysis of the existential choice of modern Ukrainians who were forced to relocate from their place of residence to safer territories due to direct military aggression from Russia. The theoretical analysis of the existential choice of internally displaced persons (both within and outside Ukraine) in a situation of uncertainty has shown the importance of stress resistance, related trust in oneself and others, personal responsibility, priority of essential life values and meanings, awareness and realisation of one's own potential and resources. It is proven that the highest existential value in this choice is life, and an important driver for relocation was the preservation of the health of loved ones and avoidance of suffering. An auxiliary factor in making an existential choice is a person's awareness of the situation and events. Information from the media influences the choice, but the most important factor is the reliance of the surveyed Ukrainians on themselves and those around them. The author's own questionnaire was used to confirm the links and interdependence between these characteristics of choice. The psychological analysis of the questionnaire shows the value consequences of personal and existential choices: the outline of the future in a situation of significant uncertainty, rethinking of the experience already lived, which leads to the strengthening of personal resources. The author outlines the guidelines for psychological support to internally displaced persons, in particular: development of the value-sense sphere, self-confidence, stress resistance, responsibility, criticality to the media; support in finding and realising one's own capabilities.
