Abstract
The aim of the article is to study the value potential of the Ukrainian literature textbook for the 7th grade of the New Ukrainian School, prepared at the Institute of Pedagogy of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine. The textbook is compiled according to the author's model curriculum. The course of Ukrainian literature for the 7th grade is built as a logical continuation of the study of artistic works according to the thematic-genre principle with observance of the chronological sequence regarding the presentation of literary personalities within the thematic section. The processing of educational material with its gradual complication based on ideological, thematic, and genre connections is determined by the age-specific features of the artistic perception of 7th-grade students. The recommended content of the model curriculum for the 7th grade includes works of art about the historical past of Ukraine, Ukrainian identity, military themes, character formation, and life tests of personality. The content of the textbook of Ukrainian literature for the 7th grade has an axiological orientation. The historical and cultural memory of the Ukrainian people is among the universal and national values revealed in artistic works. The questions and tasks of the methodological apparatus of the textbook encourage students to think about the role of each person in historical events, and about memory as a concept of passing on the most valuable assets of humanity.
