Abstract

Interactive computer modeling using PhET simulations is a unique, powerful, affordable and technological tool for studying natural sciences (physics, chemistry, biology) and mathematics. The University of Colorado project (PhET–Interactive Simulation – URL: https://phet.colorado.edu) has developed more than 150 interactive models. PhET-simulations is a modern technology of acquiring practical knowledge, skills and abilities based on modeling and imitation of natural processes and phenomena, aimed at learning the educational material through virtual research and experimentation. The use of such simulations makes it possible to create animated, intuitive, interactive learning and gaming environments, where the student turns from a passive observer into an active participant in the educational process, is given the opportunity to conduct research, plan an experiment, put forward hypotheses, make predictions, and formulate conclusions. In the environment created by the simulator, connections between natural phenomena and the foundations of science are reflected, developmental visual models are developed. The use of simulations as animated illustrations is an effective means of understanding natural concepts, phenomena and processes, as well as a way of involving students in scientific research, establishing cause-and-effect relationships between natural processes and phenomena, knowledge with everyday life experience, which significantly increases interest in learning , contributes to the awareness of science as the foundation of understanding the surrounding world.
