Abstract

The paper summarises the digital transformation experience of the European Union (EU) in the context of specialised scientific education in Ukraine. Despite the availability of regulations that govern specialised scientific education, it has been established that specialised education's contents, forms and methods undergo constant development associated with the effects of globalisation and rapid technological progress on education. Based on the dynamics of transformational changes driven by the Industrial Revolutions and the war in Ukraine, the paper emphasises the need to focus the students in specialised scientific education on “breakthrough results”, i.e. activities that address current problems, challenges, and potential future ones. The paper summarises open-source analytical data that made it possible to identify the challenges faced by the EU education authorities. It has been established that the top EU priority in digital transformation is to adapt students to the rapid expansion of technology and provide them with access thereto for their professional and personal daily tasks. The paper presents a brief analysis of the instruments establishing the priority of student adaptation: The European Data Strategy, the Excellence and Trust in Artificial Intelligence Programme, the European Industrial Strategy, and the Next Generation EU Programme. Based on a thorough analysis of the above instruments, the authors proposed to apply the following promising technologies in specialised scientific education: cloud technologies, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, blockchain and cybersecurity technologies. For the successful implementation of these technologies, the authors have suggested using the EU experience illustrated by the Digital Education Action Plan (2021–2027). In particular, the authors proposed to focus on the following two priorities: promoting the development of highly efficient digital education ecosystems and enhancing digital skills and competences for digital transformation. According to the authors, the research in the area of artificial intelligence are prospective and promising.
