Abstract
The article presents the results of a theoretical study on the definition of the concept of "research competence" of students. It has been established that the main forms of research work of higher education applicants are: performing research work while writing term papers and qualification works of bachelor's and master's degree; participation in student competitions, scientific seminars, conferences and competitions of various levels (general institute, regional, national and international), etc. Student research is an integral part of the scientific activities of BINPE, Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University and Vinnytsia National Agrarian University and ensures the integration of education and science. It is the first stage in the training of scientific personnel. Its main purpose is to obtain and use new scientific knowledge to create socially useful scientific results, ensure high-quality training of specialists for relevant sectors of the economy, scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel of higher qualification; solving complex problems in the field of scientific and technological development; implementation and use of scientific and scientific-practical results in Ukraine and on the world market. The authors have analyzed the research and identified the characteristics of a researcher, such as: the ability to observe, analyze and explain observation data, separate essential facts from insignificant ones; the ability to conduct an experiment (setting up, explaining and presenting results); the ability to conduct an active search at its individual stages, etc. The authors outline various methods and approaches that will contribute to the formation of research competence of students. It has been established that research competence is the basis for the development of intellectual, communicative, project skills, develops critical thinking, and creative abilities of students.
