Abstract
The introduction of formative assessment into the educational practice of general secondary education institutions involves certain changes in the organization of the educational process and the high level of professional training of teachers. The research of scientists and pedagogical practice gives reason to conclude that formative assessment during the teaching of biology can be carried out with the help of such assessment tools and forms as: portfolio, contextual tasks, competence-oriented tests, situational tasks, etc. Our article is about the use of situational tasks for the implementation of formative assessment in the study of biology in institutions of general secondary education, which will help to realize the goal of biological education, namely the formation of natural and scientific competence in students through the assimilation of a system of integrated knowledge about the regularities of the functioning of living systems; understanding of the biological picture of the world; application of knowledge of biology and ecology in everyday life.
