Abstract

Languages define the individual, but they are also part of a general inheritance. They can serve as a bridge to other nations and cultures, contributing to mutual understanding and a common sense of European identity. Effective multilingualism policies and initiatives can empower citizens. Language skills can also increase people's chances of employment, facilitate access to services and rights, and promote solidarity by increasing intercultural dialogue and social cohesion.
