Abstract
The article actualizes the problem of reforming the content of literary education in grades 5-6 of the New Ukrainian School. It has been proven that the continuity between the primary and secondary school literary education makes it necessary to take into account the level of formation of the reading competence of younger schoolchildren, in order to design the purpose and tasks of studying Ukrainian literature in the adaptation cycle of basic secondary education (grades 5-6). The essence of the subject reading competence of younger teenagers and the peculiarities of its formation during the study of Ukrainian literature is revealed. It is accented that reading competence is more complex in structure than the actual reading process, a new personality formation. It includes the reception of a written text of any style and type, knowledge of its specifics, understanding of its ideological content, the ability to separate for oneself from its content the basic values for one's own development, to evaluate their significance. The reading competence of 5-6 grade students is defined and its structure, presented in the content of the model curriculum on Ukrainian literature for 5-6 grades of the New Ukrainian School, is analysed in detail. The group of competence results of studying Ukrainian literature according to the model curriculum for the 5th-6th grades of the author's collective of the Institute of Pedagogy of the NAPS of Ukraine is described. The importance of using competence-oriented tasks for the formation of students' reading competence has been proven. A scientifically based methodical system aimed at the integrated formation of subject reading and key competences of students at various stages of working with the text of art works, implementation of research projects, assimilation of theoretical and literary concepts is presented. Emphasis is placed on the importance of rational organization of each lesson of Ukrainian literature, which is a link in a single methodical system aimed at developing critical and creative thinking of students-reading, the skills of conscious reading, perception, interpretation and evaluation of literary works, the ability to independently form one's own reading circle.
