Abstract

The activity of the Ukrainian Scientific and Methodological Centre of Applied Psychology and Social Work is directly related to the creation and activity of the educational system psychological service. As the leading scientific and methodical organisation of psychological service, the centre ensured its creation and effective development for thirty years. The psychological service activity has contributed to and continues to reform the education sector based on child - centred, individual, and personal approaches, forecasting and designing the personal progress of students under challenging conditions of modern social development. The main directions of the psychological service activity are: consultative and methodical assistance to all participants in the educational process; educational work to improve the psychological culture in education institutions and in the family; development of students’ orientation on healthy lifestyle and protection of mental health; etc. The development of the psychological service has significantly affected the increase of psychological specialists’ training in higher education institutions. The research on actual problems of social and pedagogical practice, content, forms, and methods of professional training of applied psychologists were intensified. During the years of the centre’s existence, a unique system of relationships between psychological science, basic and applied psychology and psychological and educational practice has been built in the country.
