Abstract
The analysis of the activities of the Division of Higher Education of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine was carried out; it throughout the entire period of its existence was aimed at substantiating, scientifically and methodologically supporting the modernisation of the domestic higher education system based on global achievements and breakthrough practices in the educational and research space. The main strategic guidelines and tasks are outlined for the solution of which the main efforts of the members of the Division and its institutions were directed. The most significant research achievements were revealed, which are related to the substantiation of the philosophical background of higher education modernisation, economic and managerial determinants of its development; development of the system of state standards of higher education based on qualification requirements and provision of compliance of the content of higher education with the current and strategic goals of the country; improving the quality of education in the context of both European integration and diversification of types and forms of educational services taking into account development trends and needs of the modern labour market; introduction of innovative technologies and distance learning, related to new approaches of SMART-specialisation and Industry 4.0 in educational programs; internationalisation of the scientific and educational process, etc. Emphasis is placed on the priority and urgent tasks of the Division, which should be solved in the short term. In particular, this applies to practiceoriented research related to the development of models and specific mechanisms for optimising the network of higher education institutions, the movement to world-class universities; building an effective system of integration of higher education, science and production, national education and socialisation of student youth; scientific substantiation of the concept of internationalisation of higher education as an essential factor of its competitiveness in the situation of aggravation, etc.
