Abstract
The paper considers scientometric indicators and metrics as a means of evaluating the effectiveness of scientific and pedagogical research. As a result of the study of methodological approaches to the evaluation of scientific and pedagogical activities, study of key scientific publications and current developments on this topic, it was found that there is no unanimous opinion on the relationship between "informatics", "bibliometry", "scientometrics" in the theory of science. In terms of content, these three terms are not clearly distinguished. Today there is no single universal and rational set of indicators for evaluating scientific activity and research in various scientific fields. There is a need to standardize terminology with a common understanding, eliminate terminological confusion and define a standard set of indicators and scientometric methods. In the process of development of domestic science, it is advisable to create a system of objective evaluation of the results of scientific and pedagogical activities, including for management decisions.
