Abstract
The main results of two applied researches conducted by the Department of Teaching Ukrainian Language and Literature at the Institute of Pedagogy of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine are presented. The following research results were received: methods of competence-oriented teaching Ukrainian language and literature to lyceum students were developed, theoretically substantiated and practically tested; the essence and structure of the concept of “reading competence” are clarified; speech genres, which are an effective mechanism for transforming language knowledge and acquired skills into mastery, are selected; types and stages of work with genres in Ukrainian language lessons are described; a system of studying a literary work, taking into account the artistic context and interdisciplinary links, which contributes to shaping reading and cultural competences of students, is developed. The research results are implemented in the general secondary, higher education and in-service teacher training institutions.
