Abstract
The paper deals with the principles of forming skills of students – future teachers and educators – in working with educational and scientific literature. This is the foundation of the operational and reading competence. The future teacher should be able to perceive, analyze, and highlight the main meaning, create a mnemonic scheme of the text, keeping it in memory. The dominant goal of a teacher's professional growth is mastering of the cognitive operations of understanding the text.
