Abstract

All social systems in one way or another consider the issue of human happiness. Within these systems, we can distinguish different approaches to happiness. The essence of the totalitarian system is the creation of external goals and meanings for the person, while the person is treated as an instrument which serves these purposes. On the contrary, the liberal democratic system is oriented on person’s own purposes, inducing him/her to achieve them. An important aspect of human happiness is the integration of the person with other people and finding the meaning of life. It may seem that in totalitarian systems there are more favourable conditions for these aspects of happiness. But the problems of such social structures are their rigid orientation towards a certain type of people and groups of meanings, the desire to transform others in accordance with the ideal model, which naturally leads to the alienation of a part of people from society or to their alienation from themselves which is combined with the simulacrum of external integration with the society. In general, a liberal democratic model of society organization should be more helpful in finding person’s happiness and realization of his potential, but it requires person's self-dependence and activity in the organization of his/her own life, which is very difficult for many people. The main problem of constructing a liberal democratic society is that the rulers always seek to usurp power, and this leads to the creation of a society with the presence of external democratic attributes, but which is in fact totalitarian, with all fatal consequences for the personality's realization of its internal potential. The only vaccination from this state of affairs is the widespread of the ideals of social justice is aimed at correcting the existing social system.
