Abstract
The article reveals the main aspects of adolescents’ social competence, which formation is one of the priorities of the modern education. The approaches to definitions and interpretation of the social competence components are outlined. The most important for adolescents’ social competence is their ability to assess group norms and understand reasons for their attractiveness. The specifics components of communicative competence and their formation in adolescence are described. In particular, special effects of communication with peers, when important information not given by adults is received on the background of lack of specific experience at this age group, are noted in the context of adolescents’ social competence development. We argue that it is necessary to find effective means and methods of purposeful training not only for adolescents but also for their parents in order to facilitate entering into the modern socio-cultural environment. The development of adolescents’ social competence should be done through the development of their ability to assess group norms and to understand reasons for their attractiveness. We emphasise the systemic nature of the social competence and put forward prospects for the development of social competence through the development of an individual’s life potential. The emphasis is laid on the development of personal responsibility at a situation of life choices to find the best options for adaptive interactions with the world, because it is through such responsibility that most important life decisions are made.
