Abstract

The article reveals the essence of personal coping strategies as an important component of stress-coping behavior. The authors analyze different classifications of coping strategies in the context of their impact on the stressful situation and problem solving, discuss the features of active and passive, productive (constructive, adaptive) and unproductive (non-constructive, non-adaptive) coping strategies as well as emphasize the role of the situational approach in the use of coping strategies. The authors also stress out the importance of coping strategies for maintaining the psychological health of the individual and organization and make a conclusion about tight links between staffʼs coping strategies and staff and organization's psychological health: on the one hand, positive coping strategies promote staffʼs psychological health, while on the other hand, a psychologically healthy organization encourages staff's use of positive coping strategies and allows them to modify the coping strategies to meet their personal needs and comply with their personal characteristics as well as suit specific situations of their professional and personal life.
