Abstract
The article is devoted to the problem of studying contemporary Ukrainian literature in secondary schools. In connection with the actualization of the "reading literacy" concept as an understanding, using, evaluating, understanding of written texts and interest in its for achieving certain goals, expanding the world-view, developing reader potential, forming readiness for active participation in society life, were considered the completeness and appropriateness of including in the updated current programs in Ukrainian literature for pupils of 5–9, 10–11 classes the works of contemporary writers. Through the prism of requirements for the structure and content of school programs in Ukrainian literature, formulated by methodologists N. Y. Voloshina, V. V. Sidorenko, etc., the content and methodical aspects of current programs in Ukrainian literature for pupils of 5–9, 10–11 classes were examined. It has been found that, as a whole, compilers offer the best examples of works to study, "aesthetic phenomena" are the school canon: Ukrainian literature is studying as the art of words; each subdivision or topic of the program has sufficient methodical commentary, mandatory and recommended sections. However, some lacunae have been found on the issues of selection of texts by contemporary Ukrainian authors, interpretation of their content and style, selection of contemporary texts on current topics, using of cross-curricular links, in methodological support for the process of studying contemporary Ukrainian literature. In this regard, recommendations have been formulated to develop criteria for the selection of works by contemporary writers for studying at school, for using digital society opportunities to increase reading literacy and to adjust the list of literary concepts with development of recent cultural trends. It is emphasized that the professional polylogue of all participants of the process of studying contemporary Ukrainian literature (teachers, writers, literary critics, experts in literature) will be able to solve the outlined problems.
