Abstract
The author considers the problem of reading as a means of activating the speech activity of pupils in Ukrainian lessons. The quality of perception and understanding of the text depends on the type of reading. The criteria for distinguishing between types of reading are numerous and interrelated. They are based on the dominant properties of readership. The main differentiation is carried out by loudness reading, its purpose and functions.
